چکیده

Recent solubility, electrokinetic, spectroscopic and flotation studies in our laboratory on apatite and calcite in aqueous electrolytes indicate complex mineral_olution interactions which can alter surface characteristics of these minerals markedly in the presence of each other. In the case of systems containing such sparingly soluble minerals, understanding of the mineral_olution chemical equilibria under different physico-chemical conditions becomes important for developing schemes for processing themThe chemical equilibria in heterogeneous systems involving salt-type minerals are investigated in this work. Stability relations have been analysed on the basis of bulk equilibria for calcite, apatite, magnesite, calcite-apatite, calcite-dolomite, apatite-dolomite, gypsum-anhydrite, calcite-gypsum, calcite-apatite-dolomite and calcite-magnesitedolomite systems. The role of atmospheric carbon dioxide, which under most laboratory experimental conditions cannot be avoided, has been emphasised. Theoretical results have been correlated with experimental data reported in the literature.

Pressure, temperature and fluid composition in the Kalaybar aureole, NW Iran; Mineral equilibria in metapelitic and calc-silicate rocks

Intrusion of the Kalaybar nepheline syenite into the Cretaceous pelitic and calcareous sediments has produced a thermal aureole up to 1km thick. Six mineralogical zones are developed in the pelitic rocks with minerals such as cordierite, K feldspar, sillimanite and corundum. Chemically suitable rocks are partially melted in response to the heat from the pluton. Five mineralogical zones are deve...

Constraining the Water Activity during Peak Metamorphism in a Thermal Aureole; a Mineral Equilibria Approach

In order to assess the presence or absence of fluids under peak metamorphic conditions within the inner aureole of the Etive igneous complex in west Scotland, eight suitable metabasic hornfels samples and one suitable pelitic hornfels were used to calculate water activities using a mineral equilibria. Calculated activities for water are lower than unity in the pelitic sample and extremely low i...

Development of a novel once-through flow visualization technique for kinetic study of bulk and surface scaling.

There is a considerable interest to investigate surface crystallization in order to have a full mechanistic understanding of how layers of sparingly soluble salts (scale) build on component surfaces. Despite much recent attention, a suitable methodology to improve on the understanding of the precipitation/deposition systems to enable the construction of an accurate surface deposition kinetic mo...

Ruthenium redox equilibria: 1. Thermodynamic stability of Ru(III) and Ru(IV) hydroxides

On the basis of the selected thermodynamic data for Ru(III) and Ru(IV) compounds in addition to original thermodynamic and graphical approach used in this paper, the thermodynamic stability areas of sparingly soluble hydroxides as well as the repartition of their soluble and insoluble chemical species towards the solution pH and initial concentrations of ruthenium in heterogeneous mixture solid...

Diffusion Controlled Dissolution and Precipitation*

Dissolution and precipitation reactions that occur in biological systems and in non-stirred in vitro systems generally are diffusion-controlled. Subsurface demineralization of tooth enamel in dental caries, which has been the subject of considerable interest, is an example of such processes. In the caries process ions from solubilized tooth mineral, i. e., Ca, P04, and OH, need to be transporte...
